Hi Clearance GM Center Link ($125 core)
Description:
This high-clearance GM van center link is specially designed to address clearance issues with the steering linkage in 4x4 conversions, particularly where it rotates past the differential assembly. It also slightly lowers the tie-rod mounting point to compensate for the raised suspension height, which can affect bump-steer.
Core:
This is one of our few products with a core charge. Buyers will be provided with a pre-paid FedEx return label to return their original center-link in the box. Upon the return of your original center link, you will be refunded $125. The total cost of the part is only $200 plus your original center link.
Why:
Fitting a front differential under a GM van is a tight squeeze. It must be positioned centered from left to right with minimized CV angles to ensure part longevity, reduce driveline feedback, and achieve ground clearance.
Designing a DIY product for this task can be challenging. However, we've developed a straightforward process that works across various years and models. Our system involves installing bracketry in a sequence that allows the differential to center itself. Clearances can be further checked prior to weld-out ensuring proper installation on the first go.
The most critical clearance issue we've encountered is where the center link rotates past the differential. This modified center link is engineered to address the concern while also compensating for the suspension lift (2-3"), which helps minimize bump steer. (Bump steer refers to the change in steering toe alignment as the suspension compresses, which is more noticeable in IFS vehicles compared to solid axle 4x4s.)
We've observed that Quigley, Advance, and Weldtec vans often face interference at this point after the suspension settles. This design not only simplifies kit installation but also reduces the likelihood of future issues.
